APCNA’s President Monthly Message June 2021

Working together for better future

Dear Colleagues,

This has been a busy month for APCNA. APCNA has been active in assisting APPNA to make it a successful summer meeting in Orlando on June 30- July 3rd 2021. We have been assisting APPNA set up the cardiology section of the CME program, Cardiology section of the APPNA MERIT program and working hard to get the lecture- luncheon program for APCNA meeting on July 3rd, 2021 from noon to 2 pm at Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. This will be an opportunity to meet with the APCNA members, meet new faces and make new members.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, there has been limited face to face activity of the APCNA family but we can assure you that the executive council has been meeting monthly on first Tuesday of every month at 9 pm Eastern Standard Time for the regularly since its inception via teleconferencing and now for the past few months via Zoom to have some visual interaction. This was necessary due to our inability to meet face to face at our usual meetings- that is ACC, TCT, AHA and in APPNA meetings. In addition, we have chatting via e-mails, WhatsApp group and brief teleconference among members to discuss the cardiac educational activities in Pakistan- that include both hands-on training, site visits and workshops-, membership drive, conference schedules and of course, the pacemaker bank. Be rest assured, we are continuing to make progress with Medtronic for smooth pacemaker deliveries to Pakistan for the use of the needy at multiple sites now and this is our signature program.

As part of the new year, we intend to highlight education, we will highlight the academic achievements of our members over time on our website- so be sure to visit the website often -we do know that the cardiologists of Pakistani Descent in America are an active both academically and in practice but not adequately projected. The purpose it to get ourselves recognized, get us inspired to do better, exchange ideas about research and innovations, how to progress academically and also to exchange ideas for practice growth management in America. Our younger colleagues will take advantage of the knowledge and know-how of the senior members.

One does not need to be a member to visit the website but in order to participate in the APCNA activities, membership is required. Due to limited face to face interaction, the executive council of APCNA has decided to forego the annual membership fee for this year for its annual members; if you do sign up as a new member, you will have free annual membership this year extending into the next year. So come and join us and we will be happy to have onboard, support your ideas and viewpoints and learn from each other. The younger generation can be a strong voice in this association. We welcome your participation.

As President of APCNA, I welcome all the APCNA members to the APPNA summer meeting 2021 and look forward to seeing you at the APCNA luncheon meeting from 12-2 pm on Saturday July 3rd 2021 at Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. We have an excellent speaker with good Pakistani food and good company for all the members to enjoy. If you know of any Pakistani cardiologist or a cardiology fellow attending the APPNA, feel free to bring them to the APCNA meeting as we are here to make friends, exchange ideas and consider expanding our network and services as needed.

Yours truly,

Marriyam Moten

APCNA President 2021.
